Notes for Lt Col Charles Sinclair Shephard DSO
m. (1) Ada Katherine Powys, (2) Bertha Joan Bosworth Smith.

There are too many ‘Charles Shephers’ and no ‘Charles Sinclair Shepherds’ between 1837 and 1860 so his birth cannot be found on FreeBMD.  Later: his birth still could not be found...

Nor could I identify him or his wife on the 1881 census; I suspect they may have gone abroad; certainly their son was born in India a couple of years later.

At his marriage his surname was spelled ‘Shephard’ on the FreeBMD record.  This seems to have been the right spelling.  But even as Shephard I cannot find his birth, even when limited to Surrey between 1847 and 1850.
