His elder brother, Arthur, the 2nd duke, dsp in in 1884, so was succeeded by the Charles’ eldest surv. s., Henry, as the 3rd duke.  Henry was also in the army but retired at 38 at a Lt-Col.

Charles m. Augusta Pierrepoint, a distant cousin of the PLs with Philip Meadows, d. 1718, being the common ancestor.

His death on FreeBMD has ‘* Charles’ as his forename, a poor reading of “(Lord) Charles”.
