Notes for Sir John Blackwood Bart
He had been offered a peerage to vote for the Union of English and Irish parliaments but turned it down.

The remainder of his wife’s peerage is quoted by CP as being “the heirs male of her body by her deceased husband”.  Apparently they had seven sons, of which the seventh son was Hugh Martin Blackwoord who became a UK baronet and he was the forbear, somehow, of the 10th baron Dufferin (etc), Francis George Blackwood (1916-1991) and whose son is the current baron, living in NSW, Australia, but has not claimed it.  See CP XIV, p. 282.  Burke’s Peerage of 1885 has some details which I am using in the interim; there is nothing in their 2003 Peerage.
