Notes for Elizabeth de Crichton
The “House of Cockburn” book states that she was:
“Elizabeth de Crechton, sister of William, Lord Crichton, above mentioned, and Gawin, his sister’s husband”.
In fact the William Crichton in this is the third lord and he is recorded IN Scots Peerage vol 3, p. 64 as having a brother Gavin who married Margaret Cockburn prior to 24 jan 1477. So I am disposed to believe this report in the Cockburn book as it also says of Margaret Cockburn, p. 54:
“MARGARET, who married first Gawin de Crichton. On 11th february 1480, confirmation was given under the Great Seal of James III of the carter of several lands in the barony of Kirkmichael, from William, third lord Chrichton, to his brother-german, Gawinus de Crichton, in conjunct fee with his wife, Margaret Cokburn”
