Notes for Pte George Arthur Wellesley Hallifax White
Jane Nantais wrote of him:
“GAWH was an officer for the P & O steamship line and he also served in the British Army in South Africa as the commander in chief's bodyguard. At some point he took up the Canadian Governments offer of free homesteads in western Canada and he became a farmer before his unfortunate decision to enlist in the Canadian Army. He left his wife and 6 kids on the farm. She sold the farm at some point and moved in to the city of Swift Current. That is where my dad was born, his father was Arthur Ronald. And that is how the Emily Harford Hallifax descendants ended up in Canada.”
