Notes for Eleanor de Knovill
John Ravilous is not sure that she was the daughter of Eleanor de Blancminster rather than Bewes’ first wife, Joan; he remarks that she had the same forenam as Bewes’ second wife.  In favour of his presumption is the note in CP (VII, 347 note (g) ) that Joan was the mother of  Bewes and two daughters Margaret and Elizabeth.  But against his presumption is CP’S later statemetn, p. 349, note (n) that Bewes eventual heirs were his two sisters Margaret and _Elizabeth_ who had m. Thomas Mauduit.   The evidence that Thomas Mauduit’s wife was Eleanor is from a few surviving charters which John quoted, though Eleanor could, of course, have been a second wife.
