In Q1 of 1858 he m. either Caroline Tingey or someone else as yet unknown at Biggleswade district, vol 3b, p. 503.  The 1861 or 1871 censuses may identify his wife, two chaps and one chappess.  The latter happens to be a Caroline Tingey

Further investigation gives this marriage entry in the Biggleswade register for that quarter:

Jane Nantais has found a few census entries for Alfred with a Catherine Thomson in tow so this looks very much like her.  I wonder, though, if this is her real surname.  She may have been a cousin, of course.

I may get his marriage certificate as I would like eventually to see if he (and his brothers) had any descendants.

In the 1891 census, he was living in some style with his clerical brother Frederick Forsyth Thomson in 49 York Terrace, Paddington.  He was a widow aged 72, living on own means.  They had six staff.
