Notes for Helen Brown
Prob d.unm. young.

On the other hand there is this transcript of a memorial in Ramshorn Cemetery, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, courtesy of the Happy Haggis website at <http://www.happyhaggis.co.uk/lanark-ramshorn.htm>;:

“Sacred to the memory of John Brown, and his wife Jane Mayne. Also Helen Brown their daughter who died Sept. 1850 aged 82(?). Also of Archibald Brown who died 9th(?) Aug 1827 and his daughter Elizabeth Anne who died 29th(?) Sept. 1827 also his wife Grace Hamilton who died 21st Jany. 1844.”

I have found that the Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society have made transcripts of:

  1. Index to Burials in Ranshorn & Blackfriars
  2. Glasgow, Ramshorn Burying Grounds M.I.s

So I have ordered both of these on 11th June 2021 with delivery hoped by 25th June 2021.

And she put nothing in her will about the memorial for her parents in Ramshorn Burial Grounds.

____________________________

A thought has struck me: This memorial could only have been put up after the death of Helen in 1850, by which time the death dates of her parents might well have been forgotten, explaining the lack of mention on this memorial.

Who would have then decided to erect memorial No 48?  Might it have been in Helen’s will?  If not, whom?

See her Will Notes for the next thrilling instalment.
