Notes for Emma Docwra
At her marriage in 1878 she was of full age, had no profession and was living at St Mary Islington.
In the 1881 census she was living with her husband and (first?) son Alfred at 26 Lancaster Road North, Hornsey, Middlesex; she was 28 and born in Middlesex.
In 1882 at the birth of her son Richard, which she registered, she was living at 26 Lancaster Roard North Stroud Green, Hornsey.
In the 1861 census she was just down as E. E. Docwra (lazy enumerator!).
I can't find her on the 1901 census.
There is a ring still in the possession of the Turners, engraved "??? Docra 1 Dec 1823 - 29 Sep 1905 MD??". It is thought that it is something to do with this lady, but not sure; this needs some more investigation.
_______________
I cannot find her death on FreeBMD for up to c.1950 - too many Emma Turners.
Her birth record is on FreeBMD as ‘Emma Docura’; there is no image available to compare this with. But her marriage record has it spelt as ‘Docwra’.
In 1911 she declared that she had had 4 children of whom three survived and one had died.

TFPL, Oct 2011: There are 50 odd candidates for her death, that is 50 Emma Turners born around 1853 and dying between 1911 and c. 1950. A real needle in a haystack!
Had she died before her husband? Would this have been why her sister informed on his death? Or had they taken Emma in as there was no-one else to house her?

TFPL, July 2016: In 1939, she was still alive but 86 and bedridden, living with her son Richard and wife Florence at Manor Farm, Andover:

Notes for Alfred Elphinstone & Emma (Family)
On his marriage certificate he said his father was a brewer. This was the occupation of his step-father. His father had been a planter and merchant in Ceylon, dying there.
