Notes for Sir Robert Hamilton
He had three wives:
(1) Margaret, dau of Sir John Mowat of Stonehouse,
(2) Marion, dau of Sir David Crighton of Sranstonriddel,
(3) in 1516, Helen, dau of Sir James Schaw of Sauchy.
I do not know which of these were the mothers of which of the three sons and daughter.
See his son's notes for the court statement on his descendants and on the heir male on the 22nd August 1816.
Geo Robertson in his History of Renfrew thought that the mother of the four sons was Marion Crighton. But he did not record the marriage with Margaret Mowat at all.

George Hamilton, much later, gives a somewhat different picture, he had the same three wives, but the Airdrie line did not descend either from this Robert or from his son but from this Robert’s father, and through a brother, James, to this Robert.
Geo Hamilton does not even attempt to identify the mother mother of the aons.
He lists the children and Robert, John, James, David and Margaret.
