Notes for Alice Basset
4 Alice Bassets now...

July 2005, TFPL: The answer to the puzzle of which Alice Basset is the parent may come from part of a pedigree of Dayrell in Lipscomb’s “Bucks”, Vol III, p. 32.  In this pedigree there is a Joan Sandford who married a Henry Dayrell, living around 1230.  It says that she was “dau. and coh. of Roger Sandford, son of Sir John Sandford Knt by Alicia, dau. of Alan lord Basset (sist of Gilbt basset), third son of Thomas lord Basset by Alicia de Dunstanville; which Joane was cousin to Alicia de Sampford, Countess of Oxford”.

This might work as Keats-Rohan’s Domesday Descendants, p. 157 has the foollowing as children of Thomas Basset and Alice de Dunstanville  (1) Thomas II Bassett of Headington, Oxon, (2) Alan, (3) Gilbert and (4) Isabella.

Sep 2005, TFPL: A remerkable set of cooperative discoveries on the soc.gen.med newsgroup has confirmed this and extended the knowledge of the Basset and Sandford families.  Refer particularly to Todd Farmerie “Basset and Sandford”, 8th Sept, 2005.
