Notes for Sir Roger Seymour
His ancestry is not completely clear. (CP)
Paul Reed’s excellent article in FMG v.2, No 6, of July 2008 is not categoric about his ancestry but does make it very plausible that he was the first son of William Seymour of Woundy who was second son of Roger St Maur of Penhow.
Roger and Cecily had a second son Robert who m. an Alice, had the manor of Shepton Beauchamp and they had a son John who eventually dsp, the land reverting to the line of Roger and Cecily’s first son, William.
Roger and Cecily also had a daughter Cecily who m. Richard Cornwall, holder of the barony of Burford, Shropshire and descended from a natural son of Richard of Cornwall, earl of Cornwall and king of the Romans.
Notes for Roger & Cicely (Family)
Paul Reed, in his magisterial article on the Seymours in FMG v. 2, No 6, clearly says that Cicely was a “young childless, widow of Sir Gilbert de Turberville”, firmly contradicting the statements in CP that she m. Turberville second.
