Notes for Dorothy Vernon (?)
Ronny Bodine and Thomas Spalding in thier “Ancestry of Dorothea Poyntz”, write:
Traditionally, the wife of Sir John Savage is cliamed to have been Dorothy Vernon, a descendant of the Vernons of Shipbrook, Cheshire. This claim is based upon the Visitation of Cheshire of 1580. However HCP, 3, 250 callls this claim a “groundless assertion”. Indeed, there is no evidence that Dorothy Vernon even existed, and HCP was unable to uncomver the name of Sir John Savage’s true wife.”
I found that Ormerod’s Cheshire also had no Dorothy of any vernon family who m. a John Savage. So I’ve deleted Dorothy’s parents, though left her name in so that this may be recorded.
