Feudal baron (2nd class) of Tamworth, Notts.
________________
CP reports that there is an excellent account of this Marmion family in Palmer's "The Marmion Family".
Bodine, etc say he was of Pulverbatch, Salop and Norbury, Staffs and was also sheriff of Warks & Leics and of Notts.
________________
Sanders, Baronies p. 145, reports two marriages with daus only to both, giving four heirs:
(1) to Joan de Kilpeck: Joan I, who dsp, Mazera and Maud,
(2) to Mary (ex CP), Joan II who m. Thomas Ludlow with son Thomas who had a dau. & hr Margaret who m. Sir John Dymoke, the king's champion.
The result of Joan I dsp meant that Mazera, Maud and Joan II each inherited, eventually one third of the barony.
Moor in his ‘Knts of Ed I’, Vol I, p. 192, gives a John son of Peter de Chaumpvent who m. a Joan dau. and co-heir of Philip de Marmion on 20 Jan 1292.
And James Parker’s “Glossary of Terms used in heraldry” in the article on Marshalling, states that Philip and Joan, dau. of Hugh Kilpec, had a daughter and co-heir Joan who m. Sir Alexander Freville. However CP says that Joan, wife of Alexander de Freville, was in fact the sole child of Mazera and thus was Joan de Cromwell, not Joan de Marmion.
