He is a bit of a mystery man. His entries in Crockfords are sparse in the extreme. From the age of his son, he became a cleric late in life. His first entry in Crockfords was in 1888, his last in 1889. He was ordained deacon in 1885 in London; no entry of any education; I presume the cryptic 1888 entry of "L. Pr. Dio. Lon. 1885" means that he was licensed a priest in the diocese of London in 1885. His address is always: The Chalet, Mill Hill, London NW. He is not to be found on the 1881 census, nor the 1901 census; I presume he died soon after 1889.
I have not looked for his birth, marriage or death certificates, nor for him in the 1891 census or any before 1881.

TFPL, Jul 2006: He is to be found on FreeBMD (what a super finding machine it is now) and died in the 3rd quarter of 1900 in Hendon district. With that info, I soon found him on the index sheets and his death cert has been ordered. Sounds like he should have been in the 1891 census, not to mention quite a few before that.
On his death certificate he was 68, hence born in 1832 and died of Ostea Sarcoma Exhaustion. The informant on the 18th July was “Gertrude U Marsh Edwards daughter in law, present at the death [and of] Wellington vicarage, Shropshire”. So it sounds that he had a son who was the vicar there.

May 2007: FreeBMD has a marriage of ‘Charles Hutchinson Edwards’ with one of Elizabeth Bourne or Jane Louisa Marsh in Pancras district of London in Q1 of 1860. This is a mere three years before Charles Wright was born and I think it means we are close to identifying his wife.
Dec 2007: I wonder if the following is their 1881 census entry? The H for his second name could easily be misread as an A. 2010: I think it is definitely an H, capital ‘A’s are formed very differently by this enumerator.

If this is them, then his wife was Jane Louisa Marsh, confirmed by the baptisms of their two sons in The Old Church, St Pancras. Her birth does not appear on FreeBMD, though she might have been born before Jul 1837. Either of the following could be her death:

TFPL, Aug 2010: Henry and Gertrude Edwards have been found in the 1901 census with their two sons; Henry was indeed incumbent of Wellington, Salop. Now to find his birth and possibly Charles’ first wife. Curiously Henry is not in the 1896 clergy list.

In the 1841 census there was an Edwards family where the father, Charles, was an Ag Lab. The son Charles is down as seven years old and all were born in Dorset.
I just wonder if he adopted the Hutchinson in later life?

Ape 2016, TFPL: Charles Wright has e-mailed me to say:
“FYI, Charles Hutchinson Edwards was the son of Lieut (later Capt) Wright Edwards and Sarah Bishop Gregory. Wright's parents were Lt-Col John Edwards of Old Court, Co Wicklow and his wife Charlotte, daughter of my ancestor John Wright, banker of Nottingham.
“The Edwardses are a very old and interesting family, as can be seen in old copies of Burke's Landed Gentry (can be googled on Google Books).”
Burke;s 1862-3 Landed Gents indeed has a mantion of Wright Edwards as a third son. But Wright and/or his wife Sarah cannot be found in any census (yet).
