Notes for Emily Ann Trotter (born BROWN)
FreeBMD had the death of an Emily Ann Trotter in the Rye district, Kent/Sussex, in Q4 of 1871, vol 2b, p. 6.  The age is right though her father put her in the 1881 census, as he did his definitely absent son Henry Eden.  In fact the death certificate for this Emily Ann shows her to have died at Northiam, Beckley, Sx on the 15 Nov 1871, the dau. of Robert Trotter gamekeeper, died of Phthisis and the informant was Alfred Trotter on the 18th Nov 1871 - all definitely not the Emily Ann, dau of Wm and Mary Elizabeth.

In 1901 there is no Emily A Trotter born c. 1848.  Nor is there any Brown birth record on FreeBMD.  But she was baptised in Wimbledon.

Nov 2007, TFPL: I’ve decided to accept the above death entry in 1871.  I might get the certificate.

Apr 2008, TFPL: I’ve found her with her sister Gertrude in the 1891 census, living in No 75 Upper Berkeley Square, London.  So her death must have been after that.  The followiing deaths can be found on FreeBMD between 1891 and 1930 (hopefully):

The only one that is a near fit is that for ‘Emily L Trotter’ who died in 1916; the age is only a year out for a Sep 1847 birth but the second initial is not right.

Find her in the 1901 census?  No sign in 1901.  Or find her will?

May, 2008, TFPL: Her will was found and the probate showed she died on 23rd Dec 1926 at 1 Brock Street, Bath. (As yet this is not entered on FreeBMD)

In 1911 she was at Buckingham Palace Hotel with her sister Gertrude Helen.
Will notes for Emily Ann Trotter (born BROWN)
Her probate was on 22nd Jan 1927 to executors Ernest Balfour Trotter (by then her only surviving brother) and Edith Mary Trotter (niece and the dau. of Emily’s brother Henry Eden).  Her effects were gross of £1,165-2-11 and net of £437-11-8.

In her will of 31 May 1923 she indeed appointed her brother and niece as executors and listed:

Ernest Balfour Trotter, brother,
Edith Mary Trotter, niece,
Gertrude Helen Trotter, sister,
and these were the three residual beneficiaries.

However her sister Gertrude had died earlier in the previous year so the residue was between her brother and her niece.
