He was royally confused with his cousin, another Jonathan Bartholomew who was four years older and came to live in Newmarket and appeared in the various public records.
On the other hand this Jonathan only appeared in the 1861 census when he was 4. He does not appear in the 1871 or 1881 censuses and is then only found at his death in Newmarket district:

He is not to be found
On FreeBMD there is a Jonathan Bartholomew who death was registered in Newmarket in jul-Sep 1886 aged 30, Vol 3b, p. 334. This looks like our lad, so I’ve included this. BUT SEE BELOW!!!
There is also a marriage of a Jonathan Bartholomew in Q3 of 1877 at Mildenhall (includes Kentford) to Anna Maria Payne. Did they have any little Bartholomews? Might this mean that his sister Sarah is no longer a genetic heiress?!!!
There is no Jonathan Bartholomew in the 1881 census to clarify this. Rubbish! Here he is with a son and daughter, though it looks like his mother-in-law had married for a second time:
