It is of him that Dugdale must have written this note: "To expect a certificate from Mr Ferrand of Carleton, this this gentleman is of his family" (p. 173 of Clay's edition).

Arms Generally notes for Robert Ferrand
At a later date his descendants bore his ferrand arms but with a cinquefoil azure on the field. A portrait of his great-grandson Rev Bradgate Ferrand, who died in 1709, shows this cinquefoil and it was eventually confirmed in the Royal Licence to William Ferrand in 1890.
