Notes for Sir Alexander Stewart
In both the FMG ancestors of Charles II and in a long article by John Ravilous n soc.gen.med, it is proposed that Alexander Stewart did not have any children by, nor perhaps was ever married to, the unknown ____, dau of Sir John Turnbull of Minto, as reported in SP IV, p. 145 et seq.
Instead all his children are now thought to have had Janet Keith as their mother.
The original information on this comes from Andrew Stewart's "Genealogical History of the Stewarts, from the earliest period of their authentic history to the present times" pub 1798, A Strahan, London. I would like to see how the FMG account, taken from "A Medieval Heritage: The Ancestry of Charles II, King of England" by Neil D Thompson and Charles M Hansen over many issues of the Genealogist volums 2 to 17, confirms this genealogy as SP quotes several dockments which refer to the Turnbulls as aunts or ancestral to Alexander’s descendants.
