Notes for Ellen Anna Philippa Powys
Living at Madeira Rd Whyncot, Holdenhurst, Hants at the 1881 census, with her mother.
She was honoured by a page in Miscellanea Genealogica et Heraldica 3rd Series, Volume IV, pp 53-59 (1902) entitled:
"Descent of Ellen Anna Phillippa Powys from Major John Scott-Waring, with his descent from ancestors of Shrewsbury, and of Scot's Hall, co Kent."
We still have her genealogical account of almost everyone, written in 1887-8.
In the 1901 census she was living at Whyncot, Madeire Rd, Bournemouth, Hants (has to be her mother's old house, see above) with two servants and a 9 year old visitor, Marianne Lowe who was born at Chobham, Surrey (where the Darnells lived) and was likely to be the daughter of the widowed housekeeper Ellen Lowe. EAP was aged 66, living on own means and born at Goring Heath, Oxon.
In the 1871 census she was living with her parents and her sister Selina Jemima at the vicarage, Street Lane, Hullavington where her father was the vicar. She was 35 and born in Goring Heath, Oxon.

Slight before 1899 she subcribed for a copy of Mrs Climenson’s “Mrs Philip Lybbe Powys” from The Sycamores, Burleigh, Stroud. I wonder if she got her copy in time to be in Bournemouth for the 1901 census?

In 1911 she was very likely at the same house, now called 8 Madeira Rd, Bournemouth, but her name looks like Elliott and was transcribed as such. I have told FindMyPast.

According to Isabella Lybbe Powys’ letters from to Albert Reginald Powys in c. 1909, Ellen had been born an invalid (”being always an invalid”); club feet, which afflicts births of the third or fourth children onwards?
