In the Arbuthnot site by Sir William Arbuthnot Bt. he says that Thomas was a descendant of the Elliotts of Horsley Hill, but Geo Tancred says ‘the only authority for such a conjecture is derived from Satchells’ rhyming of names, which in many instances is known to be incorrect’.

Geo Tancred in his book says he was a tenant in Oakwood-miln; see the MI Note.

On a tombstone in Lindean (where?) churchyard:

  “Here lies Thomas Elliot tenant in Oakwood-miln, he died July 27, 1723, aged 63.
  And here lyes Jean Inglis, widow of the above Thomas Elliot, she died at Selkirk,
  May 7th 1743, aged 83.”
