Notes for Margaret Cockburn
On the Hare tree of the Trotters.

See her husband’s Notes for the Lyon Register record that identifies her as a daughter of Sir William Cochrane of Langton, albeit from a matriculation in 1803.

However the Lyon register does not give her forename; though this, and her surname, is on the LDS Vital Record for the birth of her and John’s dau. Jean in 1662.

March, 2006, TFPL: Diane Baptie has now found a most relevant document:

GD122/2/605 -  October 1659 - Marriage contract between Sir John Gilmour advocate and Margaret Cockburn, sister german of Sir Archibald Cockburn of Langton.  In it, a Bond of Provision by the deceased Sir William Cockburn of Langton is referred to.

Further she has found a useful confirmation that she was the mother of Jean Gilmour:

Then, GD122/2/715 which is a Discharge by Margaret Cockburn, widow of Sir John Gilmour in which she acknowledges receiving money for the 'entertaining of my daughter Jean Gilmour hir board and abulziements for the said term of Martinmas 1676'

She is also forwarding copies of the marriage lines of Sir John Gilmour and Margaret Cockburn and of the baptism of Jean Gilmour.

Excellent stuff!

Notes for John & Margaret (Family)
I have a print of the filmed entry, it is almost illegible but Diane Baptie says that the words are: “Sir Johne Gilmour advocat Margaret Cokburne.  These last pair wer maried upon the 26 day of this instant” the entry is dated 27th october 1659.

Their marriage Settlement deed, dated 8th Oct 1659, is held in the National Archives of Scotland, ref No CD122/2/605. and includes the (clear) signatures of John Gilmour, Magraret Cockburn, Margaret Acheson, Achibald (probably as there is just an abbreviation for the forename) Cockburn and one other Cockburn with only an initial for a forename.
