In the TNA Medals Archive ref WO/372/20, image ref 13666, he started as a 2/Lt with the 3rd Berks regt and then became Lt with the 2nd Berks regt.  He received the 1914-15 star and fought in France. The record does not mention that he was killed in action.

On the Births index, his name is indistinct and transcribed for FreeBMD as ‘Ron*d Herburt G Trotter’.

The telegram to his father on 29th Oct 1915 was:

“To Canon Trotter, Horton Lodge, Christchurch Road, Reading.
“ Deeply REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT Lieut R W G Trotter R Berks Regt was killed in action 25/26 Sept.
  “Lord Kitchener expresses his sympathy.”

I’m not quite sure what the last indicated.

He did not appear in the 1911 census.  Probably already in Argentina?

Yes, FindMyPast shows him to have left the country in 1911 for Buenos Aires, Argentina.  This was on 10th Jan 1911, on the ship Highland Scot and he travelled 1st class.
Will notes for Lt Ronald Herbert Gillett Trotter
He died leaving a will which was not proved in this country as he only had a £100 or so.  However he had a farm in Argentina so the will was proved there.  His sole beneficiary was his father.

in his will, of 20 March 1915, he signed his will for his Argentine property and declared that he was a bachelor with no natural issue.  He died six months later on the 25th Sept 1915.  On 14th December his father certified that he was the only near relation and that Ronald was unmarried. On 5th Oct 1916 one officer and on 10th October another officer signed that on joining the army on 14th Dec 1914, R H G T signed that he was unmarried and that no notification had been received by the army of any marriage.  I think we can conclude that he was unmarried!

In his will he stated that the papers for his farm were held by Lockwood & Co, Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Charles Lockwood of this firm was to be co-executor with his father.

In his codicil of May 16th 1915 he stated that he owed his partner (in Argentina), one Edwin Ware, £100 and that this was to be repaid him out of his estate there.
