In 1513, he [Sir N] was associated with his father [Sir R] in a grant from the crown of the office of lieutenant of Calais Castle which they were to hold in survivorship.
From DoNB: Sir Richard Carew, father of Sir Nicholas, was created by Henry VII a knight-banneret at the battle of Blackheath, and was sheriff of Surrey in 1501.
At the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520 - or was he in view of his death in May of that year? He may well have been invited which accounts for his name on the records.
