Smith labels him James I, lord Berkeley and calls him "James the Just".
m. (1) an unknown dau of Sir Humphry Stafford, (2) Isabel Mowbray, (3) Joan Talbot. He may also have married very early an unknown dau of John St John; there was a marriage contract for this dated 19 Apr 1410.
He and Isabel had four sons, William, James (dsp), Maurice and Thomas, and three daus, Elizabeth, Isabel and Alice.
