She is mentioned in "The Coltness Collections" as the brother of James first Lord Carmichael, The Lord-Treasurer-depute.
In "The Scots Peerage" she is recorded as the eldest daughter of Walter Carmichael of Park and Grizel Carmichael, sister of the Captain of Crawford and that she married first in 1608 James Stewart of Allantoun Lanarkshire and second to Robert Denholm of West Shields Lanarkshire.
