6th James Stewart in succession.

On the Hare tree of the Trotters as well as in RCLPL.

Had several dealings with Cromwell.  Part of the defence of Edinburgh in 1650 for Charles II against Cromwell but advised the king to fly, with 20,000 marks (£6,666?) to assist him.

A covenanter himself and thus torn in his loyalties.

In 1649 presented Edinburgh College with a copy of the Biblia Polyglotta of Michel le Jay; it still exists and has an inscription about him in each volume.

Was about 6' 2"" tall.
