Notes for Simon Michell
Burke LG 1937: "He purchased and restored to ecclesiastical use the Church of St John, Clerkenwell (which had been built by the knights of St John) and for the benefit of the inhabitants of Red Lion Street, which he had built.  The portraits of he and his wife are preserved in the vestry and their monument is in the church in the crypt of which there were buried (the coffins were subsequently removed to Woking).  This ceased to be a parish church in 1930 and was constituted the prioral church for the Grand Priory for the British realm of the Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in 1931."
