In the 1825 Army List he was a Capt in the 27th Enniskilling Regiment of Foot with an appointment date for this Regimental rank of 16 Dec 1824. His second name was spelled ‘Pakenham’ and his surname ‘Vandeleur’. There were four other Vandeleurs in the index to this List.

The Salisbury and Wiltshire Journal, in the report of Mon 13 August 1827 of his marriage a week previously, said he was of His Majesty’s 31st regiment (Fusileers).

TFPL, 2012: At last something reasonable about his familyy, Burke’s irish landed Gentry of 1912 which has an adequate account of the Vandeleur family of Ireland, p. 719. This shows both his marriages, (1) to Mary Barrington and (2) to Frances Maunsell and he and the latter had 7 children.
His grandmother was Frances Pakenham of the Longford family, hence his forename of Pakenham.
