Notes for Sir Fitzwilliam Barrington Bart
On his death the Essex estates reverted to the Shales family and Barrington Hall then somehow came into the hands of G Alan Lowndes (who edited his father William Clayton's history of the Barringtons). We have a copy of a letter (probably in Bransby Wm Powys' hand) from Richard Simeon to Henry Philip Powys outlining the precise position of the various wills and reversions and stating that Sir Charles Barrington had changed his mind and left the reversion of the estates unequivocally to the descendants of John Barrington but that he only got two signatues to this codicil so, in the law of that time, it was invalid.

In 1796 he was living at Calbourne Lodge, Isle of Wight.  He probably stayed there until 1818 when his elder brother John died and he may then have moved to Swainston.

From Betham's Baronetage:
Seat: Swagston [ Swainston, surely ], IOW, Hants.

April, 2002: Got a copy of the entry in the burials register of Calbourne parish, he was probably buried in a vault - from a half legible note on the side of the register.

TFPL, August 2003:
A search through the Navy Lists of 1783, 1790 and 1704 did not show him there at all, contradicting the suggestion by Alan Lowndes, in his Barrington Family History, that FitzWilliam had been a naval captain.
