Arms Generally notes for Robert FitzMaldred Lord of Raby
Gules a saltire argent. These arms were used by the Nevilles, his male line descendants who in fact changed their surname from FitzMaldred to Neville.
The College of Arms includes these arms in their 1927 achievement for RCLP-L. Unfortunately in 1997 they identified them as belonging to Richard Neville the kingmaker. The latter did not ever use these undifferenced arms and always added a label to indicate he was of a cadet line. So the choice is to identify them as either FitzMaldred, whose arms they originally were, or as neville from Ralph Neville, 1st earl of Westmorland; my strong preference is to identify them as FitzMaldred as this best describes where these arms came from.
