Notes for Sir John Barrington Bart
From Mark Noble's "Memoirs of the persons and families who by females are allied to or descended from the protectorate-House of Cromwell" pub in 1784:

"The title of baronet came to sir John Barrington, son and heir of John Barrington, esq, third son of the baronet of those names, and grandfather of the last sir Charles Barrington, bart.  This sir John Barrington, bart. died in august 1717: he married Susan, daughter of George Draper, of Hitchin, Herts, gent. by whom he had three sons and two daughters."

Dec 2007: I have found a barely legible entry in the filmed copy of Hitchin parish register of births that may be “1672 April 20 was baptised John ye sonne of John Barrington” but I am not sure of the names.
________________________________________________________________________

In his will, John is the first child, Charles the second and Fitzwilliam the third son. He also referred to the four younger children and Charles, Fitzqilliam, Susan and Sarah.  This indicated that he had had precisely five children, or five that were living when he wrote his will.

He was baronet for a mere two years, from the death of his cousin Charles in Jan 1714 (Julian style) to his own death in August 1717.

Will notes for Sir John Barrington Bart
Will of Sir John Barrington of Hitchin, Hertfordshire
proved 07 November 1717 PROB 11/560

His will was dated 26 March 1717.

In his will he left the bulk of his estate to his first son and then specified how it was to go to up to the first six sons of this first son.  Then if the first had no sons he repeated all the clauses and sub-clauses for the second son.  Finally the same for the third son (who was in fact the only one to have sons).  The only advantage of this interminable legalese is that it explictly names the sons and their order: John, Charles then Fitswilliam.

After all this he specified the younger four children, fortunately naming them all, so the daughters are firmly named too, in the absencense of any other documentation of their birth and lifetime.
