TFPL, June 2021: There is no public record of his parentage that I have been able to find.

However I have three sources for his parentage:

  First there is a Family Tree that had been in the possessions of my aunt, Nancy Pethick (née Ferrand).  This says that John Staniford Hallifax married Dora Walker and in 1927 they had a son called ‘Laurie John’ but later erased and revised to John Laurie C.

  Second I have been contacted by a son of John Laurie C Hallifax who has confirmed his ancestry and said that his father was born in Zastron, South Africa.

  Third, the certificate for the marriage of his asserted parents in St George’s Cathedral, CapeTown.

  Fourth, that he was given the third forename of Conyers, documented on his death certificate and on his probate.  This was the maiden name of his asserted mother’s mother.

  BUT none of these provide public records to confirm the birth of J L C Hallifax to Mr & Mrs J.S. and D.H. Hallifax.

  However his own marriage certificate would state his father’s name.  Order it, P-L!

The evidence of his asserted parents’ marriage is very firm and cannot be denied.  So he is being left on this tree as it is looking very likely that a record will be found to prove he was indeed their son.

30th Jun 2021, TFPL: The will has been delivered and makes is categoric that John’s mother was Dora Howard Curwen, previously Hallifax and born Walker.

All that remain is for John’s marriage certificate to arrive to give public record of his father.

3rd July 2021: The marriage certificate has been delivered and it does indeed certify that John Staniford Hallifax was the son of John Laurie Conyers hallifax.  See John and Doreen’s marriage Notes for the transcript.

TFPL, July 2021: I could find no public document to confirm his father’s name.  His birth record in South Africa was simply not to be found, it is not even certain that his birth was registered anywhere as he was born out in the countryside where his parents were farming some land.  The only public document to confirm his relationship to his father was his marriage certificate as follows:
