________________

In Nov 1937 aged 20 he sailed from Liverpool to Ceylon to work as a ‘Rubber Asst’.

The Times 1953 notice of his engagement clearly shows he was then living in New Zealand.  I wonder if it was his mother who put that notice in, as she seems still to have been alive then and living in London.

On 7th Oct 1953, the Times’ notice of their engagement says he lived at Wellington, New Zealand.

On 11 Jan 1955, the Times notice of his and Helen’s dau. Charlotte says that they were living at 252 Papunal Road, Christchurch, New Zealand.

On his 1960 voyage to New Zealand he gave his address and that of all their family as c/o National & Grindleys Bank Ltd, 13 St James St, SW1.  I wonder if the lack of an English address indicates they were emigrating - rubbish, he had emigrated decades ago!

From the London Gazette:

15 Sep 1950: He relinquishes his command and is granted the Hon Rank of Capt in Royal Regt of Artillery.

22 June 1954: Awarded Efficiency medal (Territorial); a Capt in Royal Regt of Artillery.
