| Smyth appears to say that Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir Maurice Berkeley. But the DNB article for her husband says that she was the dau. of Thomas Berkeley. As does the Leics vis'n of 1619. So it is worth having a look at Smyth's words: "Sir Thomas Berkeley ... And had to his wife Parnell the daughter of Willm Mountford whom Sir Maurice his son succeeded, who by Margaret his wife daur of Sir John Biron had issue Thomas Berkeley knight and Elizabeth married to Sir Wm Husser cheeife Justice of England ..." It could just be that he meant that Elizaqbeth was the daughter of Thomas B. So I have altered my records to show here as the dau. of Sir Thos. - Many thanks to Brice Clagett for pointing this out (and that Parnell Mountford was not Sir Thos' wife anyway). __________________________________________________________ TFPL, Dec 2005: Just to add to the confusion, the 1584-5 Yorks visitation, p. 92, has that Elizabeth's Berkeley's father was Sir Maurice.
