Notes for Roger (IV) de Berkeley |
His line continued at Dursley until 1404 (Sanders lists it up to 1349).
Keats-Rohan says he married Hawise Paynel of Dudley and left a son Roger V who d. 1220. She also says that he m. Helen, dau. of Robert Fitzharding, so I conclude that he m. (1) Helen and (2) Hawise.
Curiously also Smyth, in his Lives of the Berkeleys, calls him Robert and this is not corrected or annotated by the modern editors. Further Smyth says that helen died on "xijth January about the tenth of the raigne of King John", the tenth year being 1208-9. |
