There are 146 marriages of people named John R Hunter from 1930 to present. No chance of working out which, if any, was him.
There is one probate of a John Rowland Hunter who died on 7 Feb 1954. His widow was Edith Ellen Hunter but I still cannot identify any such marriage. But I don’t think this marriage was of the John Rpland who was included in his aunt’s will in 1978 so was still alive then.

There are two John Roland Hunter probate entries, one in 2010 in Sussex and the other in 2018 in Lancs. The first had a birth year of 1925 so was not this man. The second had a birth year of 1918 so looks very much like him.
It is certainly getting much closer. In his will he named his wife as Jennifer Mary Roose Hunter, so I was able to search for a jennifer M R ——- who married him. This conveniently turned up a Jennifer M R Paton who married a John R Hunter in 1947 in Westminster district.
He also named his children. So I did a search of the progeny of Hunter and Paton. Incredibly five children appeared, four of whom had the forenames given in his will. As all the other births were in East Anglia the spare birth in Trowbridge Wilts might not be part of the family and might be for another Hundet-Paton couple.
