From Ruvigny’s Roll of Honour 1914-1919, p. 102:

FLETCHER, HORACE WILLIAM, Lieut., 7th (Territorial) Battn. The Royal Welch Fusiliers, 4th s. of Lionel Fletcher, of Elmscroft, West Farleigh, co. Kent, J.P. and D.L. by his wife, Eleanor Mary, dau. of William Bruce Stopford Sackville, of Drayton, co. Northants; and brother to Lieut.-Commander W.J.Fletcher (q.v.); b. Ewell Manor, West Farleigh, near Maidstone, 19 Sept 1889; edu. Eton, where hs was in College, and after gaining a Postmastership at Merton College, Oxford, took his degree in 1912; in the same year, in preparation for taking Holy Orders, he bacame a resident at Oxford House, Bethnal Green, E.; he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division in Sept. 1914; obtained a commission in the Toyal Welch Fusiliers 21 Dec. following; served with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli from Oct. 1915; later proceeded to Egypt, where he held the appointment of Transport Officer; transferred to the Intelligence Department; took part in the Battle of Romani; served with the Egyption Expeditionary Force in Palestine, and was killed in action near Gaza, 26 March 1917, being hit by a sniper at Alimunter Hill while conversing with some German prisoners.  His Commanding Officer wrote: “He did magnificent work that day, pushing on beyond the captured position with a few men and two other officers, and it was in theis forward position that he met his death . . . He was a splendid officer and exceptionally gallant, and his death will be a great loss to this battalion.” Unm.
