There is an overseas death of a Capt Patrick J S Boyle of the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1944 but the ‘J’ initial does not ring right.  Something else may turn up.

The CCGC site has this note on that Captain:

“Son of Capt. the Hon. James Boyle, and of Katherine Boyle (nee Bowlby); husband of Mary Elizabeth Boyle (nee Fuller), of Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

This is not the Capt Edw Spencer Boyle mentioned above.  Nor is the wife Rita.

And Burke’s Peerage 10th edn of 2003 clarifies what is going on:

Patrick Spencer Boyle was indeed the son of Edward Spencer harry Boyle (1870-1937).

Edward Spencer Harry Boyle was the 2nd son of the second marriage of the fifth earl of Shannon, one Henry Bentinck Boyle.

Going back to Patrick Spencer Boyle, he did indeed marry, as his second wife, apparently a mere four months after the death of his first, on 5 Aug 1940 Rita Sylva (or Sylvia?) Berens and they had a son David Spencer Boyle on 23 April 1942.

Patrick Spencer Boyle was a Lt-Cdr in RN.  He died in 1978

David Spence Boyle m. in 1980 and has two children, a daughter b. 1982 and a son b.1983.

Now to find the evidence for the Brown descendants.

Armed with the above info that Patrick S Boyle died in 1978, I did a fresh search:

1. He could not be found in England and Wales deaths,
2. He could not be found in FindMyPast’s ‘World’ deaths
3. He could not be found in the UK probate indices from 1978 to 2020,
4. His burial was found on Ancestry:

His name in on a family burial stone in the churchyard of
Holy Trinity and St. Andrew's Churchyard
Ashe, ampshire.
