The first of Eleanor Patterson’s children to be clearly identified in 1939!  She was living with her mother and step-father at 1 Puckle Lane, Canterbury, Canterbury, Kent:

It is worth noting for Pamela both that she is given a second initial of ‘M’ and that her surname later became ‘Wells’.  Both of these are to be seen in her marriage record later that year.

And in the will of her sister Iris Muriel in 1998, Pamela is referred to as “my sister Pamela Margaret Wells of 41B Hamer Avenue, Wembley Downs, Perth, Western Australia.

No births found for any children with the surname of Wells and a mother’s maiden name of Joy.  (Did he die in the war?)

There were 24 marriages of Pamela M Wells from 1940 to 1980.  So no idea which of those, if any, could have been hers.

Thus hath Joy ended - in a cloud of unknowing.

However her sister Iris  Muriel Joy left £100000 each to:

1. My sister Pamela Margaret Wells of 41B Hamer Avenue Wembley Downs Perth Western Australia 6019,
2. Michael Hugh Carrol Wells of 418 Hamer Avenue Wembley Downs aforesaid,
3. Timothy Nigel Timlett Wells of 418 Hamer Avenue Wembley Downs aforesaid.

I would guess that Nos 2 and 3 were the sons of her sister.

This guess is confirmed by her half-brother Richard Hugh Wightwick in his will in which he explicitly names:

(a) His nephew Timothy Nigel Tremlett Wells,
(b) His nephew Michael Hugh Carol Wells,

Note that they are in the reverse order to that in Iris Muriel’s will.  But this does mean that these two were known to be the sons of Pamela Margaret Wells, née Joy.

In 1998 her sister Iris Muriel said that Pamela Margaret was living in Perth, Western Australia so she survived at least until then.

There is a Pamela Margaret Wells who died in New Zealand in 2013 but she was born, they say, on 30 November 1938 so was not this lady.
