I have a slight suspicion that the two ladies are the one person and that the different surnames indicate that she had been married previously. The confirmation of this is the appearance of his wife’s sister in their hause in the 1881 census and with the surname of ‘Gosden’ which could easily be a mis-reading for Gouden.
If the couple have children, it may be needed to get a copy of the marriage certificate to sort this out.
