In 1900 a Norman Maclean was entered as a member of a Freemason lodge at Corithian somewhere in NewZealand. He said he was then 46 and a Contractor. This could have been him, but…

No it was not him in NZ.
His death is only known (so far) from his probate granted in 1894.
I surmise that having been single in 1891, he was still thus in 1892.
