Complete Peerage gives no  satisfactory account of him, though does seem to recognise that his son was indeed recognised as 11th earl.  Furth it calls his son the 2nd earl, which has to be rubbish!  One day someone should send in a documented account to Chris Phillips’ Complete Peerage corrections.  Doubtless something would have been published by the Committee of Privileges of the House of Lords on this case.
