His marriage is definitely ‘Morris’ on the handwritten index, his death is equally definitely ‘Morres’ on the typed index. The 1881 LDS census gives him as ‘Morres’ so that is in the majority of the free databases!
In 1881 he was 49, born in Reading, Berks, BA Oxon and late a lieut in 47th regt and living with his wife, 2 daus and wife’s sister with 3 servants at No 1 Raglan Villas, Raglan Rd, Lycombe and Widcombe, Som. The daus were:
Mary A Morres, aged 22 and born in Bath, Som,
Susan E Morres, aged 20, born in Bath, Som,
His sister-in-law was Francis [sic] J Hill, aged 36, born in Combe Bisset, Wilts.
Robin Hill reports that there was a third daughter, Isabel Charlotte b. 11 Jan 1863 and registered and baptised in Wokingham (why?). In 1881, Isabel was 18 and a niece staying with Robert Eliot Morres, Rector of Langridge, Somerset and his ten children and six servants plus a governess.
In 1871 he and his eldest daughter Mary Ann were staying with his father Elliot Morres in Wokingham. Also in the house was a boarder in the form of Isabella Lybbe Powis born in Southgate, undoubtedly a daughter of Henry Philip Powys of Broomfield and Hardwick.
_______________
There is a grave with a family tombstone on it in the Cemetery of All Saint’s church, Wokingham and listing these on it:
full name age birth death relationship
Mary Morres
30 1805 1835 first name on monument
Philip Morres 31 1811 1842 brother of Mary Morres
Augusta Morres 2 1843 1845 daughter of Mary Morres
Beatrice Morres 76 1791 1867 wife of Mary Morres
Elliot Morres 90 1794 1884 unknown
Margaret Morres 1869 unknown
In fact my opinion is that Mary was the first wife of Elliot Morres and Beatrice Morres was not the wife of Mary Morres (!) but the second wife of Elliot Morres.
Philip was more likely the brother of Elliot Morres.
Augusta was possibly the daughter of Beatrice Morres ndee Fletcher.
