Notes for Ellen Eden
From the birth registration for her son Robert in the new GRO index, her maiden name was Eden.  A marriage entry would confirm this.  And it does and the censuses give her forename as Ellen.

In the censuses after marriage in 1880:

1881: Aged 23, born in 1858, in Massam, Yorks
1891: Aged 26, born in 1865, in Masham, Yorks
1901, Aged 40, born in 1861, in Masham, Yorkshire
1911, Aged 50, born in 1861, in Masham, Yorkshire

The question now is where and when she was actually born.  It looks like Masham which is in the North Yorks dales.  Lets try the birth registers for Ellen Eden born in 1862 +/- 5 years:

In Masham, Yorks: No births found
In Yorks, 4 births found:

Last Name First Name Born Died Event Registration District

Eden Ellen 1858 — 1858 Thirsk, Yorkshire
Eden Ellen 1859 — 1859 Richmond (Yorkshire), Yorkshire
Eden Ellen 1861 — 1861 Northallerton, Yorkshire
Eden Ellen 1866 — 1866 Stockton, Durham

The new GRO birth index includes the mother’s name:

Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
EDEN, ELLEN     MOSES
GRO Reference: 1858  D Quarter in THIRSK  Volume 09D  Page 331
EDEN, ELLEN     JONES
GRO Reference: 1859  M Quarter in RICHMOND UNION, YORKS  Volume 09D  Page 475
EDEN, ELLEN     -
GRO Reference: 1861  M Quarter in NORTHALLERTON  Volume 09D  Page 447
EDEN, ELLEN     TODD
GRO Reference: 1866  M Quarter in STOCKTON  Volume 10A  Page 110

Masham could, just, be within the Richmond District.

The censuses for Richmond give in 1861 and 1871:

1861: Ellen Eden born in Melsonby, Yorks in 1857, parents William and Jane
1871: Ellen Eden born in Melsonby, Yorks in 1857, parents William and Jane

But Melsonby is about 12 miles north of Masham and Richmond is between the two.

I cannot identify her birth...  I have entered c.1861 as it looks as if it could be 5 years either side of 1861.  And I have also entered Masham, Yorks as she consistently said it was the place of her birth  .

I cannot clearly find her death: she was alive and living with her son Robert in 1911. Did she re-marry?  If so, the marriage was not in the local area.

An Eleanor Boynton born in 1860 died in Whitby in 1930, might this have been her?
