Notes for William Thomson-Sinclair (born Thomson)
According to J Cuthbert Hadden in his life of George Thomson, father to this William, William was in the Civil Service and served in Germany, West Indies, Canada and Malta; his wife was an heiress and inheited an estate at Freswick in Caithness.  They had one child only, a son named William Thomson-Sinclair.

Burke gives 1855 as the year in which he and his wife succeeded to Freswick and he had to take the additional surname of Sinclair on inheriting the Freswick estate with his wife.

There is no sign of a name and arms clause in the Lyon Ordinary of Scottish Arms.
