GeneralMajor of the Lanarkshire and Dumbarton Ancible Cavalry.
Notes for Claud Hamilton
His family were of the family of Hamiltons of Barnes.
Burke says that they were of the family of Raploch and indeed this line is shown in all generations in “The House of Hamilton” by Lt-Col George Hamiltion, pub 1933, pp.731-740 for Raploch and pp. 119-124 for Barnes.
This book also gives a descent from the Maxwells of Pollock on p. 122, which is confirmed on Vol I, p. 433 of “Memoirs of the Maxwells of Pollok” by William Fraser, published in Edinburgh in 1863. So he is doubly, and very distantly, related to our forbears by both the Hamiltons and the Maxwells.
