JOHN McCORMICK, born 1690, said
[by Dr Hew Scott] to be a son of
Hew M. of Castlewellen, Ireland,
or of Captain Kdward M. and Janet
Gordonon of Castlewellen: educated at Univ.
of Edinburgh ; M.A. (8th Dec. 1710) : licen.
by Presb. of Dalkeith 25th Sept. 1716: ord.
to Second Charge 7th May 1719 ; pres. to
First Charge by George II. 7th March,
trans. and adm. 26th April 1738; died
29th Dec. 1752. When settled in the
parish “he was one of tin- prettiest fellows
in person and in parts, the darling of the
one sex, and the envy of the other,” which
drew on him no small trouble. For several
years he was prevented from exercising his
ministerial duty in public, through losing
the power of his left side by paralysis.
He marr. 22nd June 173O, Anna, eldest
daugh, of Joseph Drew, Principal of St
Leonard s College, and had issue John,
born 11th April 1731; Joseph, Principal
of said college, born 22nd June 1733; Jean
(marr. John Hill, min. of this parish);
Sarah ; Anna ; Margaret ; Janet (marr.,
cont. 14th April 17G9, Andrew Balfour,
merchant, Edinburgh)

The daughter Janet had one child Isableea (Tibbie) Balfour and died died in 1773 and Janet died in 1773 in Scotland. Andrew then seems to have emigrated to America and then remarried and had further children, who are thus not descendants of Hans Hamilton. But Isabella was a descendant of Hans, probably went to America with her father and married, had three children and died there. Isabella’s line went forth and multiplied. See <
