Notes for John Wallace
Curiously, while the information of this Robert Wallaces comes from vol 1 of Paterson’s “Genealogical History of Ayr”, vol 2 of this work has a chapter on some Wallaces of Dundonald and there is no Robert Wallace mentioned therein.
However a footnote to a Matthew Wallace in this article on the Wallaces of Dundonald says “One of the daughters is said to have married Robert Montgomerie of Whitefoord.”
The Wallace that fits with the rest of the account is John Wallace, 3rd of Dundonald. He married Ages daughter of Sir John Stewart of Minto who died in 1683 and whose son Walter became lord Blantye, so SP should have something on him.
SP indeed has such a John Stewart of Minto and who had a daughter Agnes married to John Wallace of Auchans and Dundonald. So I have changed this chap’s name from Robert Wallace to John and hope that this is the right father of Margaret Wallace who married Robert Montgomerie of Hessilhead.
