In the 1891 census he had a wife Jessie aged 53, born in 1838 in Middlesex, England.  None of his children were living with him, only his stepson Joseph J Turner.

She was Jessie Yielding Lambert, married in 1884 at St George, Hanover Sq, London on 17 July.

TFPL, May 2019: The Dumfries Valuation Rolls:

In 1855 The Brewery and House was owned by Primrose & McGill, Wm Primrose agt ('agent' probably).  They also owned a Lodging, a Warehouse, a Brewery and a further Lodging. The tenant of the House and Brewery was Mrs Mary Ann Turner, the tenant of the first lodging was Mrs Margaret Rae(?) and the tenant of the warehouse was William Turner.  The occupier of the Brewery was Mrs margaret Turner.  The rent was assessed at £70pa for the House and brewery, £12pa for the lodging, £3pa for the warehouse and £70pa for the Brewery.

In 1865 he was listed as both tenant, in common with William Turner £74 (who he?) and John Norrison, and occupier of the Brewery and house.  The rent was listed as £74 per annum, the highest in Buccleuch Street, Dumfires by a large margin.

In 1875 he was co-proprietor, tenant and occupier of the Dwelling House and Brewery at 5 Bucclecuch Street, Dumfries and co owner of two stoes down Brewery Street (adjoining?) whose tenant was John Rorrison, grocer and occupier of one was John Rorrison and the other by Kerr V Fotheringham, seedsman.  The full list of the owners of the properties was "James Rennie, Brewer 5 Buccleuch Street, Mrs Mary McGill or Jones Albany Road, Dumfries, Misses Margaret & Agnes McGill, Ratchill Troqueer and James McGill, Bank Agent, Ratchill Troqueer.  The assessed annual rent was £72 p.a. plus £10 and £5 for the two stores on Brewery Street.

In 1885, he was the sole owner of the House and Brewery at No 5; their previous so-owners had their names originally entered but then crossed out with a note in the margin of "Property sold to J Rennie".  The tenant and occupier were both James Rennie, Brewer. and the annual rent was assessed at £72.  The Granary proabably next door was also his but empty.  (I did not get the details of the Stores in Brewery Street as this was yet more pennies for Scotland's People for very little benefit.)

Now for the question of wha was the previous owner and what happened after James Rennie's 1891 death.

In the 1890 valuation Roll, James Rennie was still the owner.  Perhaps he had let it?

In 1891-2, The House at No 5 Buccleuch Street and the brewery and store in Brewery Street were all owned by James Stewart, Brewer.  In the same page of the valuation roll is a mention of a property owned by the trustees of the late William Turner of Nith House, per John Henderson, solicitor.  I wonder if he was the co-owner of The Brewery mentioned in 1865 and (b) whether he was related to Joseph Turner who originally got some possession of The Brewery in c.1888.
